De Wielerwereld aan je voeten ( Dries De Zaetijd)
Description
Based on an extensive archive, historian Dries De Zaeytijd (Koers. Museum of cycling, roeselare) reconstructs the remarkable story of the company camiel thomas. En cours de route dwells on the development of cycling at home, Europe and America.
Roeselare, 31 December 1928 - six years after velo-shoemaker Camiel Thomas started his own business, he signed an agreement with cyclist Hector Martin. From now on, Camiel is allowed to market shoes under the brand name Hector Martin. This collaboration soon results in wide sales within the Belgian cycling world.
After World War II, Camiel Thomas broadens his range with caps and musettes, which are eagerly purchased at home and abroad. Meanwhile, his velodrome shoes are shipped in large quantities to the United Kingdom, where Tom Simpson and Beryl Burton, among others, wear cycling shoes made in Roeselare.
